Maria Eagle MP Shared Lives visit 2023

This week I visited with carers Beth and Craig Macauley who are part of PSS’ Shared Lives programme, which sees disabled or vulnerable adults live in family homes which provide care while letting them live as independently as possible.

Established in the 1970s and based on the foster care model for children, Shared Lives provides a range of care options, from short-term or daytime care to long-term live-in care. The Macauleys provide care for Chelsea and Mark and have formed a close family bond that has become important to them all, which they recently appeared on Stef’s Packed Lunch to discuss. They are one of many success stories across the city. Other carers provide support for victims of domestic violence or give respite care for families with members with complex needs.

PSS currently have 67 Shared Lives homes across Liverpool but are looking to expand this provision. Shared Lives carers are self-employed and given full training and support. You can find more details at: https://psspeople.com/help-for-professionals/social-care/shared-lives.
