On Saturday I was happy to attend the Liverpool City Region Women’s Forum event at Unite’s Jack Jones House alongside female colleagues from across the city region, including my sister Angela.

The event was a great way to inspire future female future MPs and elected officials. Women MPs make up 34% of the 650 sitting MP after the 2019 General Election, with Labour’s 104 women MPs making up 51% of our MPs. When I was first elected in 1997 there were 120 womens MPs elected across the House, double the 60 elected in 1992, 101 of which were Labour MPs. As of March this year there are 225 women MPs in all parties. Labour is doing better than other parties on getting women elected.
