Labour mini budget
Labour mini budget

Last month Tory MPs cheered when sweeping unfunded tax cuts were announced in the Kamikaze budget. The chaos that followed, as well as the economic mismanagement over the past 12 years mean that working people will now be paying the price for this Tory recklessness with the economy. Today, Tory MPs cheered as the Chancellor announced billions in tax rises and announced cuts in public services, all of which will leave working people worse off.

The energy price cap is going to rise to £3000, roughly double what it was this time last year, disposable income is set to fall by 7.1%, the largest amount since records began, and we’re now in a recession. While members of the Government have been focussed on their own personal job security, with unemployment expected to rise to nearly 5%, they’ve shown they don’t care about your job security.

Whilst benefits and pensions will rise by 10.1%, this is below the current rate of inflation at 11.1% and food inflation which is even higher at 14.1%. Constituents in Garston and Halewood are an after-thought for this Tory Government and are being left behind as they try to fix the mess which they made in Downing Street.

Everywhere we look we see the effect of this Tory Government. In our shopping bills and our mortgage payments, in our empty high-streets and in the creation of communal warm spaces this Christmas. We need a General Election, and we need a Labour Government now.
