On Friday I took my Public Advocate (Number 2) Bill back to Parliament where the Government could have, if they’d wanted, allowed it to pass through to the committee stage. Instead, they objected to it once more.

The Bill is partway through its second reading and sits at number 7 on the list of Private Members Bills. It has cross-party support and was a Tory manifesto pledge in 2017, yet they still haven’t done anything except reject it at every turn. Labour have promised to pass a Hillsborough Law when we are next elected, but the Conservatives are once more ignoring one of their own pledges.

I will continue to return it to the House at every opportunity until the Bill is passed.
