On Sunday 24th April I appeared on BBC 1’s NW Politics show dealing with current political issues. These included, the Tory con of so-called levelling up, the Tory-created cost of living crisis and the PMs Partygate law-breaking.

For constitutional reasons, we cannot just move on from Partygate because the Prime Minister has broken the law, dragging his office and Parliament into disrepute and if he doesn’t go he will drag the Conservatives down with him. He must resign and if not his party must remove him, a point I made on the programme.

Tory Scott Benton claimed that more money is now being spent per head in the North of England than when we were in the EU, but the reality is we have lost £431 per person in Council funding since 2010 while getting back just £31 in levelling-up funding. Knowsley, which was third in the league table of areas that needed levelling-up money was ignored in the first round of funding. It shows just what a con Tory “levelling up” really is.
