On Friday 29th April I visited the Garston Job Centre to hear from the team there how they are helping support local people back into work as we navigate out of COVID-19. The pandemic has impacted people in many different ways, including how confident they are in finding employment, which is why the job the staff are doing is so important.
I was pleased to hear that they are adapting how they work to the changing job market, with employers now coming in to the job centre itself to interview candidates and the youth employment team going out to the Reach to help young people looking for a job. This has increased engagement significantly and increased young people’s opportunities to find employment while knowing they have the support of the Garston team.
I met with a local employer who was conducting care sector job interviews in the job centre. He acknowledged that it has been difficult at times to get people along to interview due to concerns or a lack of confidence coming out of Covid, but that changing location to the job centre itself had helped get more people to go for the positions they have available.
