He has lied to Parliament by claiming that he knew of no parties that had taken place at Downing Street and had been assured (he didn’t say by whom) that none had happened. Now we know that he attended parties himself and even sanctioned “wine-time Fridays” which appear to have been diarised between 4pm and 7pm in staff diaries most Fridays. That is before we get to the disgusting partying on the eve of the funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh, for which he has now apologised to the Queen.

Imagine how newspapers would react if this had been a Labour Prime Minister?

In addition to the demeaning of his office and the deep humiliation he is visiting on the UK by his disgusting behaviour, he is adding to the trauma of those bereaved during the lockdowns who stuck to the rules at great personal cost, who now wonder why they should listen to a PM who smashes through the rules and the law because he thinks rules are for everyone else to obey.

In the Urgent Question on Tuesday, I was trying to ascertain whether he had attended the Party it comes down to a simple yes or no. Did the Prime Minister attend the “gathering” on 20th May? The Paymaster General embarrassed himself with his pathetic response and no self-respecting Minister would have humiliated himself in this way.

The Prime Minister offered a non-apology apology at PMQs on Wednesday, and then went to the tea room and told Tory MPs that he hadn’t done anything wrong – so much for his sincerity.  He has now disappeared suggesting that someone in his household has covid but the requirement for contacts to self-isolate in these circumstances was abolished last year. I’m not even going to get started on suitcases and wine coolers. The revelations of parties keep coming and coming.

As my sister Angela asked in the Commons, wouldn’t  it be faster  for Sue Gray to investigate the days when they didn’t hold a party at Downing Street? The Prime Minister’s position is now untenable, his moral authority out of the window and public trust in him through the floor.

We need to call time on this corrupt, lying and rule-breaking Prime Minister and his Government. They are all unfit for office.

Boris Johnson is not fit to be Prime Minister and he must resign.
