Maria Eagle MP A Strong Voice in Tough Times
Fantastic news at Halewood Ford where the future of the transmission plant has been secured as they won the competitive bid to become Ford’s European supplier of transmissions for their innovative new E-Drive technology.
The decision safeguards the future of employment at the plant, as well as creating new technology and apprenticeship opportunities for young people in the area. It also ensures that supply chain businesses that rely on Ford can continue to work with them as they make the transition to electric engines instead of the existing combustion engine. And this also means Halewood Ford will be at the forefront of green technology for domestic and commercial vehicles across the world.
I was pleased to play a small part alongside my colleagues Marie Rimmer MP and George Howarth MP, Cllr Graham Martin and Knowsley Council, and Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram. The main credit, though, must go to the management and workforce at the plant who have won the bid on the back of their hard work and expertise, as Stuart Rowley from Ford Europe acknowledged.
This is a hugely important day for Halewood and the North West, and I want to congratulate everyone involved in this incredible achievement. I look forward to Ford being a fixture in the area for many more years to come.
