Last week I visited the Torrington Drive Community Association (TDCA) to hear about what they’re doing to help fight hunger in the local community. Alongside Knowsley Council Leader Graham Morgan I spoke to Ryan O’Hanlwn who explained the increasing need for a food service and how they receive generous donations from local businesses. Their Essential Packs for local residents who need support or who are self-isolating have been a vital help to many people in the area.

Food poverty is an increasing problem, with reports today that children will miss the equivalent of 24 million free school meals nationwide across the summer holidays. The government provide food for only 16 of the 30 summer break days, leaving children without food support for 14 days.

Feeding hungry children cannot be a part-time activity. Credit must go to TDCA for stepping up to help local families when they most need it.
