This weekend, on both Saturday and Sunday, Speke played host the vaccine bus, where eligible adults can turn up without an appointment and receive their COVID-19 vaccination. Located outside The Orient at the top of Eastern Ave, the turnout was tremendous from local people, and thanks must go to the staff and volunteers who gave their time to help out.
I visited on Saturday morning alongside local councillors Doreen Knight and Tom Cardwell, and as they pointed out to me a lower vaccination uptake in Speke hasn’t been down to residents not wanting to have the vaccine, but the practicalities of getting to a vaccination centre. That’s why bringing the bus on site is such a simple and effective idea.
It’s important we all get vaccinated to help protect not just ourselves but those around us, so I’d also like to thank everyone who came out for their jab across the weekend. I was pleased to help advertise the bus, but more pleased by the great community response.
