I’m supporting the Fans Supporting Foodbanks national Right To Food campaign, which aims to enshrine the right to food into law.

This is particularly important across Garston and Halewood, where pre-Covid figures show that in 2019 5,904 children were trapped in a cycle of poverty, roughly 31% of the children in my constituency. These figures will only have risen over the pandemic. That their families struggle to put food on the table is simply wrong, and that’s why in January this year Liverpool declared itself UK’s first “Right To Food City”, calling for a right to food to be included in the National Food Strategy.

It’s wrong that 1 in 3 children lives with hunger in our community. People should be able to access decent, affordable food. It’s the minimum we should provide on a civilised society. That’s why I’m supporting the #RightToFood campaign.
