Keir Starmer

Keir Starmer delivered a powerful speech where he set out his vision for a Labour Government that will create a Britain which is the best place to grow up in and the best place to grow old in. He outlined how we need to win power to deliver policies rooted in Labour values of decency, opportunity, fairness, compassion and security. This country needs a Labour Government so we can have the properly funded public services, world-class education system, investment in skills and strong economy that we all so desperately need.

Keir spoke about how the COVID-19 crisis has laid bare the damage that this incompetent Government have done to our public services – particularly social care. The Tories have had a decade to sort out the social care crisis in this country and the Prime Minister has broken his repeated promises to fix it. We’re seeing first-hand in Liverpool the effects of broken social care system, with Brushwood and Millvina under threat of closure because the Government won’t step in and sort out how we fund caring for our relatives with the compassion, dignity and respect they deserve. That’s why I was pleased that today, the Labour Party has demanded that the Prime Minister publish his promised plan to fix the crisis in social care, including making sure our care workers are paid at least the real living wage.
