“This morning, we had a constructive meeting with Shaw Healthcare about the future of Brushwood and Millvina care homes in our constituencies, which are due to close on 31 October, displacing the 83 extremely vulnerable elderly residents.

We made it clear that we must have a 6 month extension to this deadline as it is not possible to contemplate residents having to be moved to alternative homes, all of which are rated as “inadequate” or “requires improvement” as winter approaches, as Covid infections are increasing and at a time when worried relatives cannot even visit the potential alternative homes to see what kind of care is offered or to settle them into new provision or even to visit their relatives once they have moved.

We are seeking further meetings with Shaw Healthcare, Liverpool City Council and Government Ministers as a matter of urgency to try and find a way of achieving this. Time is short but we remain sure that everything must be done to prevent these closure happening at this time.”
