Maria Eagle MP A Strong Voice in Tough Times
In the House of Commons today, I spoke up for our aviation sector and local visitor economy. Whilst I only had a short amount of time, I pressed the Government to give our local industries the support that they need.
In Liverpool, 49.8% of business rate revenue comes from businesses in the leisure, hospitality, visitor, creative and digital and culture sectors and our city welcomes 60 million visitors a year. Government restrictions however mean that many perfectly viable businesses are about to fall off a cliff edge now furlough is ending. The aviation industry is critical to the UK economy and we need a sector specific deal for the sector as well.
We need a targeted extension of the furlough scheme, both for our aviation and our local creative industries.
