Many of my Constituents in Garston and Halewood have been impacted by leasehold malpractice when buying new homes. Previously, the Competition and Markets Authority 9CMA) had decided to investigate potential breaches of consumer protection law around leasehold house sales and they came at my invitation to hear from people in Garston and Halewood who have been affected.

The CMA has now announced that it is to take enforcement action against four large providers, including some who have been active building estates in Garston and Halewood. Whilst this will help to prevent such egregious abuses from taking place in future, it does not immediately help those who are already stuck in these contracts, often with escalating costs to face and with difficulties selling the properties on. I will continue to lobby the Government on this and stand up for the many constituents impacted in my constituency.
