On Friday I had the honor of helping to open the brand new Brushwood Care Home in Speke with Mayor Joe Anderson, Cllr Paul Brant & Cllr Doreen Knight. This is the first local authority-built care home to open in the city since the early 1990s.

This great new facility run by Shaw Healthcare will meet the growing needs of older residents in South Liverpool. The facility has 60 beds with specialist equipment for taking care of those with mobility issues and dementia. This is also great news for everyone in Speke because 80% of the jobs created in this new facility will be taken up by local people.

This is the first of two such care homes with the second opening in Everton. It is amazing that despite being the hardest hit council in the country and losing over two-thirds of its central government funding Liverpool City Council is still breaking new ground and planning for the future. Fantastic work by all involved and especially Mayor Anderson who championed the project throughout.
