I have been campaigning with other North West Labour MPs in Parliament against the scandalous misuse of leasehold contracts to trap home owners into huge ongoing costs liabilities – even after they have bought their new home.

More people in the North West have been affected than in any other region and the Government have done absolutely nothing to help existing leaseholders trapped in these contracts.

These issues have been brought to the attention of the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) who are now investigating potential breaches of consumer protection law in the leasehold housing market. I have invited the CMA to Garston and Halewood this Saturday so that they can hear local resident’s experiences first hand. The investigation covers all aspects of leasehold exploitation and anyone living in a leasehold property should give evidence. Use this web address to find out more – https://www.gov.uk/cma-cases/leasehold.

I do not think the CMA will find better examples of leasehold exploitation than those I have heard in this constituency. I hope they find the experiences of local people enlightening as they continue to investigate leaseholds.
