On Wednesday Frances Molloy and I met with the new Transport Minister Michael Ellis who recently took over from Jesse Norman. We wanted to discuss the progress of the Tyred Bill, promised by Mr Norman, which would ban dangerous old tyres from our roads.
After meeting Mr Ellis it seems the Government are still planning to ban old tyres after finally seeing sense on this important issue. Our aim now is to make sure the new Minister keeps the promises both he and his predecessor have made and make the simple change to the law we’re calling for.
With the Conservative Party in chaos as they select a new Leader I am concerned that important issues such as the banning of old tyres will be dropped as ministers are chopped and changed by whoever the new Prime Minister will be. That is why I am absolutely determined to keep up the pressure, keep meeting with Government Transport Ministers and eventually get the law changed to make our roads safer.
We have all waited long enough, and the Tyred campaign have fought long enough. Over the coming months we will be keeping a close eye on the progress the Government makes to get this ban in place as soon as possible, because #OldTyresKill
