Today, Frances and I met with Transport Minister Jesse Norman to discuss the legislation the Government are consulting on to ban dangerous old tyres from our roads once and for all. Find out what we made of the meeting below.

This Friday marked a considerable step forward for the Tyred Campaign. For the first time in 18 months I DID NOT move my private members bill to ban old tyres on all public service vehicles, taxis and lorries.

Tyred Bill

Today I didn't move the Tyred Bill for a second reading, because the Government have finally agreed to put in place legislation to ban dangerous old tyres from our roads. We will be making sure this legislation is put in place as soon as possible and keeping an eye on the Government's progress, because #OldTyesKill

I did this after attending a very positive meeting with Tyred Campaign leader Frances Molloy, Transport Minister Jesse Norman and his officials. Watch the video above to find out more.

The Minister said he is very keen to move this vital legislation forward and is looking to start consulting on this by June this year with an aim to change the law by the end of this year. Frances and I were impressed by how seriously he is taking this matter and were reassured that he does support the ban.

That being said, as a general rule I do not trust Tory Ministers. Tyred campaigners, Frances and I will be watching the Minister closely to make sure his promises are kept and old, dangerous tyres are banned from our roads.
