The Prime Minister continues to ignore Parliament over Brexit, choosing instead to take us closer and closer to the cliff edge of the devastating impact of a no-deal.

On Monday Speaker of the House John Bercow announced that he would not allow the Prime Minister to bring her deal back to parliament for a third time. He did this based on a long standing precedent from 1604 that prevents Governments from wearing down MPs to get a bill passed. This decision has ruined her only tactic, to beat MPs over the head with her deal until they give in and accept, she will now find it next to impossible to get her deal through Parliament.

True to form the PM is behaving disgracefully by refusing to listen to MPs and Parliament, instead insisting “it’s my way or the highway”. Despite herself voting for a long extension to Article 50 last week, she then decided again to kowtow to the Brextremists in her party and ask for a short extension from the EU increasing the risk of a no-deal. This is no way to treat this country and its future, and it’s an appalling way for a Prime Minister to behave.

On Wednesday she highlighted how alienated she is from her parliamentary colleagues by giving a speech entirely designed to pitch the country against MPs. She essentially encouraged and exaggerated the divisions that have riven our country since the referendum. She either doesn’t understand or doesn’t care that it is MPs who she needs to vote her deal through.

It is no surprise at all that serious rumours about the Tory party ousting the PM have been circulating all week. The rumours have hit fever pitch this weekend with many now saying tomorrow will be the day she is removed as Prime Minister. While many will celebrate this I am deeply concerned that she will be replaced by a Tory hard brexiteer who will crash our country out with no deal. Whatever the outcome, more chaos, more division and greater risk are sure to be the result. We must have a peoples vote to break this unending deadlock.
