DWP Estimates Day Debate – Motability and PIP

Yesterday I spoke in the Department for Work and Pensions estimates day debate ⬇️⬇️ Many of my constituents have been hit hard by this Government’s changes to disability benefits, with many who have been moved onto PIP from DLA losing their entitlement to higher rates, losing their motability cars and ultimately their freedom to travel. Many have serious long-standing health problems, and are waiting almost a year for their appeals against the decisions to be heard. This is unacceptable. See my speech below.

DWP Estimates Day Debate – Day 2

Another clip from my speech during yesterday’s Department for Work and Pensions estimates day debate ⬇️⬇️. I raised the case of my constituent Antony who has special educational needs and has lost the financial support he would have been entitled to under the old benefits system due to a gap in legislation created by the move onto Universal Credit. Because of these changes, he is now having to complete his final year of A-levels without the financial help he needs. During the debate, I asked the minister what he was doing to support people like Antony who lose out because of this loop hole in the new Universal Credit system. I’m pleased to say, he has arranged to meet with me so I can raise the issue with him directly.

In my speech I raised the case of my constituent Antony who has special educational needs and has lost the financial support he would have been entitled to under the old benefits system due to a gap in legislation created by the move onto Universal Credit.

Because of these changes, he is now having to complete his final year of A-levels without the financial help he needs. During the debate, I asked the minister what he was doing to support people like Antony who lose out because of this loop hole in the new Universal Credit system.

I’m pleased to say, he has arranged to meet with me so I can raise the issue with him directly and get these problems fixed.
