Maria Eagle MP A Strong Voice in Tough Times
After the Government suffered the worst defeat in the House of Commons in modern history, Labour rightly tabled a motion of no confidence in the Tory Government.
Last night the Government suffered the worst defeat in the House of Commons in modern history when 432 of MPs voted against the Prime Minister’s botched Brexit deal. In response to this historic defeat, Labour rightly tabled a motion of no confidence in this Tory Government. ⬇️The debate on the motion will take place today, and when the vote is called this evening I'll be joining my Labour colleagues in voting for removing this Government to stop their shambolic handling of the Brexit negotiations and the damage this will cause to our country, economy and the lives of my constituents in Garston & Halewood. Though it is likely that we’ll lose that vote, and the Tory Government and PM will survive at least another day in Parliament, we must keep pushing for a general election and a Labour government. In the meantime, I'll keep pressing for a People’s Vote on the final deal and the future of our country’s relationship with the EU.

The debate on the motion took place on Wednesday, all of my Labour colleagues voted in favour of removing this Government to stop their shambolic handling of the Brexit negotiations and the damage this will cause to our country, economy and the lives of my constituents in Garston & Halewood.
Sadly the Tories, propped up by the DUP, scraped through the no confidence vote, winning by just 19 votes. Labour must keep pushing for a general election and a Labour government. In the meantime, I’ll keep pressing for a People’s Vote on the final deal and the future of our country’s relationship with the EU.
