This week I went to see Claire Bass, Director of Humane Society International – UK to offer my support in her protest against the sale of imported fur in the UK.

Fur Import Ban

Today I went to see Claire Bass, Director of Humane Society International – UK,⬇️ to offer my support in her protest against the sale of imported fur in the UK. I made sure fur farming here was banned during the last Labour government, but now real fur is sneaking back onto our high streets from farms abroad. Claire has spent the last 24 hours in a cage outside DEFRA, in conditions close to how animals bred for their fur are forced to live. The practice is not only cruel, inhumane and unethical – it is also unnecessary. With public support behind a ban, I’m also proud to back this important campaign. #FurFreeFriday

My private members bill led to the banning of fur farming in Britain, and subsequently across most of Europe, but now real fur is sneaking back onto our high streets from farms abroad. Many don’t even know they’re buying real fur products, as many are sold under the guise of faux fur.

To raise awareness of the issue Claire spent 24 hours in a cage outside DEFRA, in conditions close to how animals bred for their fur are forced to live. The practice is not only cruel, inhumane and unethical – it’s also unnecessary. With public support behind a ban, I’m also proud to back this important campaign.
