On Wednesday I joined local arable farmer Olly Harrison as he reaped this years harvest. It was great to get a front row seat in his combine harvester as he collected oil-seed rape and he even let me take the wheel.

Although it was great fun there was a serious point to my visit. Olly told me how difficult this years harvest has been. We have all enjoyed the very hot and very dry summer, but for farmers like Olly it has made growing crops almost impossible. Fields that once produced four or five tonnes only produced two this year.

The Government do more to support our farmers. Summers get hotter every year and Brexit will inevitably lead to the loss of subsidies that many farmers rely on. We have to plan carefully to protect this essential industry.
