Opposition Day Debate – Transport Secretary and Rail Policy

Today I spoke during an opposition day debate on the Transport Secretary’s rail policy in the aftermath of the Northern Rail timetable fiasco that has affected many of my constituents.⬇️The Government urgently needs to rethink how our railways are run to avoid the constant disruption that’s affected not just the Northern rail networks but many others across the country. The current system simply isn’t working.Despite this the Transport Secretary still refuses to take any responsibility for this crisis, one that’s ongoing and preventing commuters from getting to and from work on time. It’s high time he stood down, and when a vote was called I voted for no confidence in his position as Secretary. We were defeated by the Government and Chris Grayling remains in his role. But if this gross mismanagement of our railways continues, I can’t see it lasting long.
