Friday wasWorld AIDS Day, dedicated to supporting people around the world living with HIV and raising awareness of the fight against it. There’s currently an estimated 36.7 million people in the world and 100,000 people in the UK who live with the virus.

Projects dedicated to stopping its spread and offering support to people living with HIV and AIDS are essential, their hard work means that many people with HIV and AIDS are able to live longer and more fulfilling lives than used to be possible.Stop AIDS, whose representatives I met this week, told me that recent Government cuts to their funding means they’re now struggling to fund the vital preventative work they do.

Government funding is essential to tackling this disease. Without it, the incredible progress that’s been made over the past few decades will be put at risk. That’s why World AIDS Day is so important for raising awareness and making sure that these organisations get the funding they need.
