On Wednesday I met with 22 year old Zack Kerr who has Cerebral Palsy to support his campaign to ensure every motorway service station in the UK has accessible changing toilet facilities. Zack has managed to gather support from more than 100,000 people who’ve signed his petition to make this vital change, and on Wednesday he presented it to Parliament.

He has highlighted the fact that only a very small number of service stations along our motorways have suitable accessible toilets for disabled people. Zack himself explained that at the moment there are times when his parents have to resort to changing him on a cramped and often dirty toilet floor or in a baby changing room. There are many disabled children and adults who require suitable changing facilities during long journeys.

It is illegal to discriminate against disabled people because of their disability, so without appropriate reasonable adjustments, this cannot be lawful. It is another example of why events like International Day of Persons with Disabilities are so important.
