Maria Eagle MP A Strong Voice in Tough Times
At Labour Party Conference, I spoke at the Tyred Campaign fringe event held by myconstituent Frances Molloy whose son Michael was tragically killed on the way home from Bestival in 2012 in a coach crash caused when a 19 and a half year old tyre onthe coach he was travelling in burst.
Frances launched the “Tyred” campaign to change the law and set a legal age limit of 10 years for tyres used on buses and coaches to prevent any other family having to experience the unnecessary loss that she and her family have gone through.Ihave long been a supporter of the incredible work that Frances Malloy does with her team at the Tyred campaign.
I’m proud to announce that I’ve secured the opportunity to change the law on tyre age limits. On the 31st October I will introduce legislation in Parliament calling for a ban on fitting tyres over the age of 10 years on buses and coaches. Click the link below to learn more.
This simple legislation won’t cost the Government anything to implement, and will save lives. It’s frankly unbelievable that buses and coaches are allowed to carry passengers without any legal age limit on the tyres that they use. A change in the law is long overdue. And with the support of Frances and her team at the Tyred campaign, I know we can make this vital change happen.
