Maria Eagle MP A Strong Voice in Tough Times
On Saturday, I attended a demonstration against cuts to education in Liverpool. Speaking at the event was Shadow Secretary of State for Education Angela Rayner who set out Labour’s plans to give schools the funding they need to give all children a good start in life.
The Tories have made huge cutsto school budgets in Liverpoolmeaning teacherslost their jobsandheadteachers are being forced to write to parents asking for money to buy basic materials such asbooks and stationary. Over the next five yearsschool budgets in Liverpool will be cut by a further £28million. Cuts of this scale are unsustainable and will inevitably have a negative effect on the education that young people receive.
Watch the video above to see my discussion with Angela Rayner about the devastating impact that Tory austerity is having on the education and opportunities for young people here and across the UK.
Tomorrow I’ll be leading a debate in Parliament on education funding in South Liverpool, where I’ll confront the Government with the terrible consequences of these cuts to our schools and urge them to provide the proper funding needed to ensure every child gets the education and future that they deserve.
