Maria Eagle MP A Strong Voice in Tough Times
On Mondaymy Labour Party Colleagues and I voted against the European (Withdrawal) Bill at its second reading. I explain why in the video Below.
The Tories are trying to claim that this billis only technical. But it isn’t. If passed, it would give the Government, and individual Ministers, unprecedented and authoritarian powers to change our laws as and when they see fit without any Parliamentary scrutiny. Laws that matter to everyone, every day. That’s why Ijoinedmy Labour colleagues in voting against it.
UPDATE
Earlier this week I spoke about my concerns about the authoritarian approach the Government is taking to our exit from the EU through their EU (Withdrawal) Bill and the Henry VIII powers it gives to Ministers.
But since then, the Tories have made yet further attempts to sidestep the Parliamentary procedures that are in place to ensure that the process of law making remains democratic. Watch the video above to find out more.
