Until recently, over two thirds of schools in Garston and Halewood were set to lose out as a result of the Tories’ National Funding Formula plans.

Now the Education Secretary has announced that extra funding will be provided following widespread criticism that in many cases existing plans would actually see funding per pupil fall.

I pressed the Minister to guarantee that the schools in my constituency that were originally set to lose out, will now instead benefit from this extra money.

I welcome her reply that every school will see an increase in spending under these new plans. But for many schools in my constituency that are already struggling under existing cuts, the extra funding provided will need to be significant. Even with extra funding, the national average cuts for schools is still expected to be 4% between 2015-2019.

I will pay close attention to how the funding is allocated, and continue to press the Government to ensure schools in my constituency have the money they need to provide the quality education that every child deserves.
