Maria Eagle MP A Strong Voice in Tough Times
Theresa May will tomorrow ask Parliament for an early dissolution followed by a General Election on 8th June.
This authoritarian Tory Government is one of the worst and most divisive Governments I can recall in my political lifetime. Since the referendum last June on our membership of the EU, her Government have ignored the manifesto on which they were elected and pursued a reckless and damaging hard Brexit that will cause huge damage to the British economy and the living standards of my constituents in South Liverpool and Halewood. They appear to object to the scrutiny and opposition in Parliament which is required and expected by our constitution.
Meanwhile, they are taking an axe to our public services, to our schools, hospitals and social care system -; glorying in hitting the most vulnerable the hardest and leaving people in poverty and despair.
I therefore welcome the chance to remove this Government from office as soon as possible and I will be fighting hard, with my colleagues in the Garston and Halewood Labour Party to return a Labour MP with the most votes possible in the General Election on June 8th.
