I paid a visit to the Liverpool Screen School PULSS Production Unit to see at first hand the great education they provide for young people wanting careers in the creative industries. With facilities that are second to none with up to date technology and work experience opportunities in industries, the students are getting a first class grounding in working in journalism, film and TV production.

I could see students getting a chance at generating ideas, writing, presenting, interviewing, filming and producing papers, magazines, radio, TV and film – not to mention all the technical and back room skills to go with it. I’ve promised to go back and talk to students about what it’s like being a politician appearing on the programmes they are all learning to make.

This kind of quality provision can only be good for developing our Liverpool based creative industries. Now that the Mayor is seeking to get Channel 4 to relocate here, maybe the high quality education available for new entrants to the industry can be a big selling point?
