Maria Eagle MP A Strong Voice in Tough Times
STOP THE PRESS. Screeching U turn on budget centrepiece confirms the chaos at the heart of this Tory Government.
In astonishing scenes, just a week after the budget was set out, the Chancellor has been forced to U-turn on its centrepiece breaking of a Manifesto commitment not to raise National Insurance Contributions. It is now not clear how the £2billion promised to help counter the pressures on social care will be funded.
Liverpool was to receive £27million and Knowsley £9million of this money over the next three years. This is in addition to the £4.6 billion already removed from social care by the LibDem Tory Coalition and the Tory Government in recent years.
The Chancellor now has no credibility as his budget unravels with a £2billion black hole at its heart. It is clear that the war of words between Number 10 and Number 11 Downing Street show how badly things are deteriorating between the PM and the Chancellor.
