Friday is Holocaust Memorial Day,a day on which we remember the millions of people who perished at the hands of the Nazis, as well as paying tribute to the Holocaust survivors who carry out extraordinary work sharing their history withyoung people all over the world.

Holocaust Memorial Day

The theme of this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day is ‘How can life go on?’ It invites us to consider how new generations can comprehend the Holocaust and act on its lessons. As time passes it becomes more difficult to hear first hand stories of the atrocities committed during World War Two and we must rely onbooks, films and the media to hear accounts of the past.

That is why, today, more than ever, we must come together to remember and commemorate so that each new generation continues to fight against prejudice and intolerance.

It sometimes feels as though the world is the more divided it has been for many years. We must look to the past andlearn lessons from itto ensure that future generations can live in a world without prejudice and its effects.
